Education Day is July 8th.
Education Day is an opportunity for AoE members to showcase their educational research, exploration, and innovation through poster and breakout discussion sessions. While many details for this first time event are still under discussion in our Education Day Committee, we can confirm that our keynote speaker for the event will be Dr. Emma Read!

Dr. Emma Read is Associate Dean for Professional Programs at the Ohio State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine. She accepted the position in 2018 after serving on the veterinary faculty at the University of Calgary since 2007 where she acted as Chair of the Clinical Skills Program for eight years and as Associate Dean Academic for two years. For part of 2016, Dr. Read also served as interim dean.
Dr. Read taught at the Ontario Veterinary College in Guelph, Ontario from 2003 to 2005 before returning to her native province of Alberta to work for a private specialty referral practice until 2007. She spent 13 years working at Spruce Meadows showjumping facility as part of the treatment team working with national and international (Olympic level) equine athletes and riders.
She led the development of the clinical skills program at the University of Calgary’s Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. This program eventually grew into 20 percent of the curriculum for each of the first few years of the DVM degree and gained an international reputation as a world leader in the area. Dr. Read personally helped develop and validate several simulator models that were later commercialized by VSI (Veterinary Simulator Industries) in Calgary.
Dr. Read currently serves on the Competency Based Veterinary Education working group (CBVE) and the Council for International Veterinary Medical Education (CIVME) for the AAVMC (Association of American Veterinary Medical Colleges). She also volunteers with the International Council on Veterinary Assessment (ICVA).
